WHO ARE WE?

We are a compassionate school plus community based organization, serving as advocates for our students and families. Rooted in a belief of solidarity over charity, we function as partners in education, forming a close-knit village within our community. Through our empowering initiatives, we aim to support and uplift individuals and families, fostering a sense of belonging and contributing to a positive educational journey for all.

MISSION 

The Community Action Team’s  mission is to uplift and empower our community through collaborative efforts that provide essential resources, unwavering support, and meaningful opportunities for students and families. As dedicated partners, we believe in creating an environment where everyone can thrive and grow. Embracing the principle of solidarity, not charity, we aim to build a community that uplifts each individual, fostering a sense of unity and commitment. Through this shared vision, we strive to create a foundation for success and lifelong learning, shaping a brighter future for all.

Prepping for Back-2-School Bash

Dear Hinsdale South Community and our Partners,

On behalf of our team and the families we serve, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your incredible support during our back-to-school event. Your generosity, time, and energy helped create a day that truly uplifted our kids and set them on the right track for the school year.

A special thank you to the Darien Lions Club for not only donating school supplies, but also for showing up with your time, skills, and service — feeding the entire community and embodying the true spirit of giving.

A huge shoutout to Costco, Pete’s Fresh Market, Brookhaven Market, and Jewel, Portillo's, Chick-fil-A, Ora Triest Catering, and Starbucks for their generous food, drink, and gift card contributions — your support helped us nourish our families and create a joyful, welcoming environment for all.

To the D86Board, administrators,teachers and our dedicated Community Action Team — thank you for walking alongside me to bring this vision to life. Your leadership, creativity, and commitment made this event a reality.

We are also grateful to the many nonprofit organizations and countless volunteers who participated with open hearts, united in the mission to prepare our kids mentally and physically for the year ahead.

Thank you to the amazing barber from Platinum Cuts-Westmont and the A&O Braiding School for helping our kids look and feel like a million bucks.

To Sam’s Specialty Clinic, thank you for offering physicals and sports exams with care and professionalism. And to Dr. Ade Lawrence and the Lawrence Foundation along with Equity in Health Advisors Network, we appreciate your dedication in providing essential health screenings for our adults.

We’re also deeply thankful to the VNA Mobile Clinic for delivering critical immunizations, helping ensure our students can start school on time and in good health.

From a smile to a service, a box of produce to a hot dog, or even a ride to the event — every act of kindness and support made a difference. You showed up for our kids, and it did not go unnoticed.

Together, we made something beautiful happen — a community united to lift up its children. I hope you felt the love!

School Supply Drive!

We are proud to recognize our seniors who will be heading off to college this fall. In support of their transition to dorm life, 25 of our college-bound seniors  received special gift bags filled with essential items to help them get started on the right foot.

This wonderful initiative was made possible by the generous contributions from our community and the Rotary Club, coordinated through the incredible efforts of our Community Action Team. Their dedication to supporting our students beyond the classroom is truly inspiring.
