What
is Hornet Habits?
H2 is a character education initiative
designed to enhance and improve the character of

initiative which will create opportunities for students to become leaders and
role models – working together to promote the value of character, ethics,
respect, and good decision-making.
Why
Hornet Habits?
An overwhelming majority of students
have agreed that character is IMPORTANT and that it is important to be
perceived as a person of high character and ethics. Both our staff and students
agreed that a character education program was needed at

and good habits of decision making is implied by the mission statement of

is Hornet Habits based on?
H2 is a customized program
integrating components from Character Counts! and 7
Habits of Highly Effective Teens. The freshmen will be engaged in
activities centered on postive character traits and
the sophomores will be learning the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.
Freshmen will be
introduced to the 6 Pillars of Character Counts through lessons presented in
their English I and World Studies classes. The curriculum will have an
emphasis placed upon building awareness of the role of positive character
traits in good decision making. These 6 Pillars – Trustworthiness, Respect,
Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship – will be the foundation upon
which students are engaged in thoughtful and meaningful discussions and
activities.
Sophomores will all be
engaged in discussions and activities in their Health classes. The Health
curriculum will include the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. Key
questions focus on: Who am I? What can I do? How can I make good
decisions? The 7 Habits will be the tool to place emphasis on how the
actions of each person impact others – both positively and negatively.
What
will Hornet Habits look like?
- Formal lessons
will be scheduled during the year for Freshmen
hosted by English I and World Studies classes.
- Each H2 lesson will be facilitated by
two or more student leaders who
will have a prepared lesson for that day.
- Student leaders assigned to a class will communicate
with the teacher to make the teaching and learning environment as
effective as possible.
- Preparation meetings will be held prior to the presentation of each lesson.
- Assessment of the initiative will be frequent and
on-going.
