appointment
of Ms.
Laurel
Beasley
O’Brien
as
Director
of
Student
Services
for
Hinsdale
Township
High
School
District
86 for
the
2008-2009
school
year.
Ms.
O’Brien
brings a
knowledge
and
understanding
for the
duties
and
leadership
opportunities
in the
office
of
Director
of
Student
Services.
Currently,
she is
serving
St.
Charles
School
District
303 as
Assistant
Director
of
Special
Education
Instructional
Services
and has
held
that
position
for the
past 2½
years.
Prior to
serving
as
Assistant
Director,
Ms.
O’Brien
served
at the
building
level as
Special
Education
Facilitator
for four
years.
Also,
Ms.
O’Brien
served
as
Associate
Attorney
(Robbins,
Schwartz,

Education

approved the
appointment of
Mr. Brian
Waterman,
Assistant
Principal of
Glenbard North
High School, as
the next
Principal of
Hinsdale South
High School for
the 2008-2009
school year.
Mr. Waterman
will succeed Dr.
Claudia
Geocaris, who
has served as
the Hinsdale
South Principal
for the last
seven years. In
March 2008, she
was promoted to
Assistant
Superintendent
for Instruction
for Hinsdale
Township High
School District
86, for the
2008-2009 school
year.
Mr. Waterman
brings an energy
and excitement
to this
position, having
served most
recently as the
Assistant
Principal for
Operations at
Glenbard North
High School,
Glenbard
Township High
School District
87. In this
role, Mr.
Waterman was
responsible for
developing the
master schedule
for the campus,
as well the
successful
implementation
of a student
data management
system for
Glenbard North
High School.
His leadership
in technology
integration for
the building, as
well as
oversight for
building
security and
safety, have
been some of the
primary
responsibilities
of Mr. Waterman
as Assistant
Principal at
Glenbard North
High School.
Mr. Waterman
received his
Bachelor of
Science degree
from Eastern
Illinois
University in
Business
Education and
his Master of
Business
Administration
(MBA) from
Eastern Illinois
University, as
well. He also

Currently, Mr.
Courtney is a
Math Teacher at
Hinsdale South

Association.

opportunities to
interact with
teachers, as
well as
Administration,
and have proved
to be a positive
experience for
his candidacy
for Director of
Human
Resources. His

13th Annual
24-Hour Relay Challenge
– May 17 - 18…
District 86 is
sponsoring the 13th
annual 24-Hour Relay
Challenge Saturday and
Sunday, May 17 – 18 at
Hinsdale Central. The
purpose of the Challenge
is to generate community
spirit as well as raise
funds to be distributed
in the form of
mini-grants to the
Hinsdale Humane Society,
Willowbrook Resource
Center, Hinsdale
Community Service,
Darien Safety Village,
and PADS. Up to 500
individuals, split into
teams of 8, 9, 10, 11,
or 12, will run or walk
around the school’s
outdoor track in relay
fashion, one mile at a
time for 24 hours. Fee
for a team of 8 – 10
people is $500; a team
of 11 will pay a fee of
$550, and the fee for a
team of 12 will be $600.

“What Do You Do With a Kid Who Can’t Deal With
Anger?”…
The Downers
Grove Township Division of Human Services is
offering its popular “M.A.S.K. (Managing Anger
Skills),” educational program in three six-week
sessions in 2008. The program is designed to
teach young people the skills needed to identify
and manage their anger. All classes are held on
Tuesdays beginning at 7 p.m. at the Emmanuel
Lutheran Church, 5211 Carpenter St. in Downers
Grove. Sessions are February 12 through March
18; May 20 through June 24; and September 9
