Community
Primarily a middle and upper middle class residential
suburban area, located approximately 20 miles southwest
of Chicago in DuPage County, with some professional,
business, and light industrial enterprises. Serving
residents of Burr Ridge, Darien, Willowbrook and
adjacent areas.
School
One of two 4-year comprehensive high schools in Hinsdale
School District 86. Enrollment at South is
approximately 1,900 students with 503 seniors in the
class of 2006. Over 98% of Souths students complete
high school with 62% of the class of 2005 planning on
attending a four-year school, 32% continuing at two-year
colleges and the remainder attending trade schools,
entering the military or securing full-time employment.
Hinsdale South is a member of the North Central
Association, the College Board, and both NACAC and IACAC.
The average per pupil expenditure in 2004-2005 was
$13,025.
School Organization
The school year consists of four quarters, each nine
weeks long. Class periods are 50 minutes in length.
The first semester ends on January 19, 2006 and the
second semester ends on June 9, 2006.
Faculty
Of
the 185 certified faculty members, 146 hold a Masters
Degree and 3 hold Doctorates. Fifty percent of the
faculty has more than 16 years of experience in
education.
Extracurricular Activities
Hinsdale South offers numerous extracurricular programs
enabling students to expand their academic and social
skills, develop friendships and participate in wholesome
activities. Students can choose to participate in
twenty sports available to young men and women. Records
indicate that throughout their four years, over 90% of
our graduates have taken part in the more than sixty
organizations available to all students. |

Credits
A half credit is earned by taking a subject for at least
50 minutes a day, 5 days a week for one semester (90
days). All students are required to carry a minimum of
six credits per year. A six-week summer session is
offered for academic credit.

Education and Driver Education, are used to determine
class rank and honor roll according to the grade point

Student Services
A comprehensive program of student services is
provided. Eight guidance professionals assist students
with personal, social, and academic concerns, college
selection, and career plans. Complementing the
counselors are five social workers, a staff psychologist
and an Educational Services program that provides a full
range of services for students who have been determined
to be in need of special education services.
