HINSDALE SOUTH MISSION STATEMENT
We will achieve the vision of Hinsdale South High School by creating an exemplary learning community where everyone
· seeks and implements strategies for improving student achievement;
· facilitates student growth;
· unites to achieve definite goals with a common purpose; and
· demonstrates a commitment to the success and well being of all members.
MEETING AGENDA
We decided to keep the 2nd Thursday of the month as our primary meeting time. We will alternate between afternoons and mornings, unless other events require a change.
Creating a welcoming, supportive environment for ALL students and staff.
Ultimately, our goal is to facilitate culture and climate improvements to
improve teaching and learning.
What culture/climate concerns do we see that negatively impact teaching and
learning?
We began to create a list of culture/climate concerns that we feel impede
teaching and learning. Included in our early list were the following ideas:
There is not enough of a culture of ownership of the school on the
part of our students.
There is not enough community/business involvement in our
building.
There is not enough time for teachers to interact with each
other/see each other’s experiences (i.e. the new wing…who
has time to go see it?)
OUR TASK---Try to look for/think about other culture/climate concerns in our halls/classrooms/offices/general structure that do not help us to achieve our mission of a welcoming learning environment that results in quality teaching and learning for every student. These can include student habits, staff concerns, administrative policies….anything that creates a culture/climate that is counterproductive.
We will send an email to each of you regarding our next meeting time. Until then, feel free to email Susan or me with any ideas you have. We will continue our brainstorming then!
Thanks and have a great day.
Paul
